Join local activist-historian Penny Washington for a discussion about the importance and relevance of the Brown v. Board of Education decision in our own region. This excerpt of her presentation is entitled “Right Here: Main Line Fight for School Integration,” and centers on the Berwyn School Fight of the 1930’s, a local precursor to the activism and legal action in Brown v. Board of Education.

The 45 minute pre-show conversation will consist of a 30 minute presentation followed by a 15 minute Q&A in the upper lobby of the Leonard C. Haas Stage.

This event precedes a 2pm matinee performance of Thurgood. Tickets to the pre-show conversation alone are $5 — you do not need to have Thurgood tickets to attend the pre-performance talk.

About Miss Penny:

A native of West Chester, Ms. Washington has studied many aspects of local African American history and published her findings in the Tredyffrin Easttown Historical Society’s History Quarterly.  She has served as a historical consultant for People’s Light world premieres Bayard Rustin: Inside Ashland and Mud Row. Ms. Washington also serves on the Board of Directors of the Radnor Township Civic Association.
