The Children
January 15 February 9
A 2018 Tony Award Nominee
"Subtle, engrossing... darkly humorous." – The Philadelphia Inquirer
"Exceptionally well-acted." – David Fox

Hazel and Robin, both retired nuclear physicists, live a quiet life in a cottage by the sea. Outside, the world is plagued by earthquakes, tsunamis, and a nuclear meltdown. When an old colleague turns up after forty years with a shocking request, the three friends must reckon with their shared culpability in this darkly funny disaster drama, hailed as "astonishing and thrilling" (The New York Times) and "thoroughly gripping" (The Guardian).

Recommended for ages 13+ due to mature themes and profanity. Approximate run time is 1 hour and 40 minutes with no intermission.

  • "Skillfully interwoven personal and political threads."

"Featuring three superb veteran actors, The Children is subtle, engrossing, and sometimes darkly humorous."

"In the course of 90 minutes, simmering tensions will, of course, boil over... culminating in a dance performance and a moral challenge."

    The Philadelphia Inquirer

  • "[A] taut drama... now receiving a superb local premiere courtesy of People’s Light."

"Exceptionally well-acted... the easy rapport between the cast is undeniable. Yet individually, under Abigail Adams’ direction, they create stirring portraits of people in conflict, with each other and with themselves."

"Listen for what's left unsaid as much as said."
