It’s time to get off Zoom and get outside! People’s Light summer programs are back with full-day outdoor sessions that embrace theatre essentials—voice, movement, imagination, and the open air. Students ages 7 to 18, grouped with their peers in 2 or 3-week sessions, learn from professional theatre artists as we explore the transformative power of storytelling and collaboration. So, unplug, get moving, and most importantly, have a blast this summer!
All sessions run Monday through Friday, 9am-3pm. Extended day available 8-9am and 3pm-5:30pm at an additional cost.
Don’t forget to sign up early. Space in each session is limited as part of our Health & Safety plan. Please scroll to the bottom of this page to read our full protocols before you register.

2 Weeks: July 26-August 6
Our youngest theatre-makers work as an ensemble to step into stories and bring worlds to life. We will use a variety of folk tales as our springboard to imagine fantastical settings and characters, using an actor’s tools of voice, body, and imagination. This session closes with a final sharing on Friday, August 6 at 4pm.
3 Weeks: July 5-23
Deciding what story to tell is just as important as how you tell it. Through the creation of an original play, participants will develop not only as actors, but as artists who must consider what they want to say, why it matters, and how to bring their own personal experience to every role. This session closes with a final sharing on Friday, July 23 at 4pm.
2 Weeks: August 9-20
Be honest, but it’s all pretend. Be genuine, but make it big enough for the back row. Be prepared, but just as spontaneous as if it’s the very first time. Acting is full of contradictions that require both playfulness and rigor. Two intensive weeks will put teen artists in touch with their own unique voices as they strive for work that is big, bold, and true. This session closes with a final sharing on Friday, August 20 at 4pm.
*Participants age 13 may enroll with permission of the Director of Education.
People’s Light puts health and safety first in making all programmatic choices, and actively follows local and national recommendations regarding COVID-19 precautions. Please read through our current health and safety plans before registering.
SummerBLAST 2021 will be held outdoors; including arrival and pick-up, instructional time, and lunch. Students will work primarily in a large tented area (covered from sun and rain but open on the sides for maximum ventilation), as well as on People’s Light’s new outdoor stage. Outdoor programming will continue rain or shine, with indoor spaces available only in case of dangerous conditions such as lightning. Regular cooling breaks will be observed in hot weather and/or rigorous physical activity.
FACE MASKS AND TEMPERATURE CHECKS
Face masks are required on campus. Students may have occasions to unmask while performing on the outdoor stage, only when appropriately distanced from students, staff, and audience, according to latest guidelines. Participant screening and temperature checks will be incorporated into daily arrivals.
LIMITED CAPACITY AND SOCIAL DISTANCING
Each session’s enrollment is limited, with only one age group in session at a time. Activities will be planned to incorporate social distancing, which will also be enforced for any audiences observing sharings on the final day of each session. Guest capacity at the sharings will be limited as well. Students will receive individual materials as needed, which will not be shared between participants. Any resources which must be shared will be cleaned and disinfected between uses.
SANITATION AND FACILITIES
Outdoor portable restroom facilities and hand washing stations will be used during this summer’s outdoor programming and frequent hand-washing/sanitizer breaks will be observed.
A complete safety policy with the most current requirements and recommendations will be shared with each participating household. Signature is required prior to participation in SummerBLAST.
$550 for 2 week programs (Ages 7-9 and 14-18)
$825 for 3 week programs (Ages 10-13)
A 50% deposit is due at the time of registration. The balance is due July 1, 2021.
Programs will not be prorated for partial or missed days. However, please review our relaxed cancelation policy during Summer 2021.
Need-based scholarships are available for a limited number of students. Please contact ArtsDiscovery@peopleslight.org for information about scholarship criteria.
Single households registering two or more students in any SummerBLAST program may take advantage of a 10% discount. Please contact ArtsDiscovery@peopleslight.org to request your household discount.
Flexibility and Cancellations
We realize the changing conditions of the ongoing pandemic and the chance of exposure or infection in a student’s household require additional flexibility for all parties this year. Therefore:
- Any deposit or payments for SummerBLAST 2021 are fully-refundable up to 1 month prior to the program start.
- Any cancellation or withdrawal after 1 month prior to the program start is also fully-refundable, minus a $100 administrative fee.
- We require a minimum of one week's notice for cancellation whenever possible. Due to reduced enrollment capacity during 2021, we anticipate a waiting list for summer sessions.
If a student or staff member is exposed to COVID-19 during their session, they are required to withdraw from the rest of the program.
- Program cost will be prorated to reflect only the days the student participated.
If a student or staff member tests positive for COVID-19, the entire session will convert to virtual instruction on the next day.
- We understand a virtual program may not be ideal or possible for all families, and program cost will be prorated for any student who withdraws at that time.
If People's Light is required to cancel a session in its entirety due to evolving health and safety considerations, all participants will be given a full refund.
