People's Light serves as a national leader in creative learning programs and innovative artistic practices of theatre-making for and with young people.

Our longest-running programs, such as Arts Discovery High School and the New Voices Ensemble, reflect our commitment to long-term partnerships with schools, organizations, and individuals in the Greater Philadelphia region.

  • Arts Discovery High School

Running since 1987, Arts Discovery High School offers free and discounted tickets to high-need high schools and middle schools in the Greater Philadelphia region that might not otherwise attend professional theatre.

We reserve priority access for schools with Title 1 funding. For more information, contact us at or 610.647.1900 Ext 137.

  • New Voices Ensemble

Our work with the New Voices Ensemble began in 1990, with students primarily from the city of Chester. Currently under the direction of Resident Teaching Artist and New Voices alumnus Nadira Beard, the program serves students ages 7-18. New Voices students receive scholarships for the Theatre’s full range of classes for youth, and transportation to and from those activities.

Some of these students participate in more intensive training and projects throughout the year.

New Voices Ensemble members, in grades 6-12, also enjoy group trips to People’s Light plays, one-on-one mentorship throughout the school year, and an intensive, year-long training and rehearsal process. They share their work annually with audiences in the city of Chester and on stage at People’s Light.

We lead a variety of workshops for ages 7-18, including in-school workshops for local high school Drama and English classes tied to both school curriculum and People’s Light productions; theatrical workshops at public libraries; and pre-performance workshops at the Theatre for Scout Troops and other groups.

Each workshop is tailor-made for your class or group!
