Weekly Saturday classes give young theatre-makers the tools to develop their skills and confidence. Over the course of the session, students work together to create and perform their own stories, guided by professional teaching artists.

Fractured fairytales, the joy of a surprise ending, our favorite stories with a delicious twist! Our youngest students will discover the joys of creative storytelling by making old stories new, exploring new settings and new characters. A playful, collaborative approach to performance invites students to play and work together, apply focus and imagination, and express themselves through their voices and their bodies.

Actors wield the power to make others laugh! Our ensemble will learn the common ingredients of comedy, including different styles from different times. From slapstick and physical comedy to stand-up “rants”, fall acting students will practice the “laugh math” of comedic timing. In the process we’ll get playful and fearless with all the tools actors use: movement, voice, emotional awareness, observation, creativity and teamwork.

The director hands over a page of lines to speak… and then what? Fall’s class will give student actors repeatable techniques for how to approach scripts so they’re not only words waiting to find meaning. Actors and directors have so many ways to interpret characters, tune into relationships, find conflict in a scene, choose actions, tactics, and develop cause and effect that energizes any situation in a play. Don’t wait for a director to unlock the scene – know what an actor can do to make their scene partner shine, the dialogue crackle, and real truth begin to shine on stage.
