JOB OVERVIEW

The Wardrobe Manager plays a vital role in the operations of the theater. This position is full-time and requires communication and flexibility on nights and weekends. The ideal candidate thrives with timelines; each event is tightly timed and learning and reacting quickly and efficiently is important to the team and the performance as a whole. The Wardrobe Manager often serves as liaison between the Theatre and guest artists. They assure the best in hospitality for artists. The Wardrobe Manager reports to the Costume Shop Manager and assists as needed with other departmental needs. The ideal candidate will be ready to jump in and tackle a variety of projects in a fast-paced and creative environment. This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Compensation is $30,000/yr plus full health benefits and paid time off. After one year in the position, People’s Light will begin contributions into our employee pension plan.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE

  • Report directly to Costume Shop Manager (CSM) and to the Stage Manager during the run of the show

  • Responsible for maintaining costumes during performance of each show. Costumes are to be cleaned, laundered, mended and pressed for each performance.

  • Supervise the costume running needs of each show including wigs and facial hair.

  • Attend rehearsals as required for tech prep.

  • Prepare dressing rooms for performance: Set up dressing table with hair pins, wig stands, wig caps, tissues, and make-up, etc.

  • Request any special quick change dressing needs: lights, hooks, mirrors, hangers etc.

  • Update the designer’s costume plot with tracking information from dress rehearsals.

  • Make a running plot for the shop manager and stage manager in case of illness or other emergency.

  • With the help of the shop manager determine a dry-cleaning schedule for each show.

  • Train crew if additional dressers are required.

  • Strike, clean and put away shows.

  • Notify the CSM when supplies are becoming low.

  • Assist in build when available at the discretion of the CSM.

  • Assist the shop manager in the maintenance of boxed and hanging storage.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Demonstrate a commitment to Equity and Inclusion

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and commitment to artist service; This is a critical part of the organizational culture

  • A self-starter able to work independently, proactively, and with a positive attitude

  • Professional theatre experience

  • Physical demands include, but are not limited to, lifting, bending, climbing ladders and stairs

  • Able to work independently, proactively, and with a positive attitude

  • Passion for live theatre and for working with artists

  • Sewing skills

  • Strong communication and listening skills

  • Valid Driver’s License

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous stagecraft experience, while preferred, is not mandatory

  • Wig maintenance

  • Make-up experience

  • Bilingual (Spanish)
