Summary

The Special Events Intern works closely with our Development Department on several events throughout the year. Currently, its needs are centered around People’s Light’s annual auction scheduled for May 3rd, 2019. Ideal candidates will have an interest and/or experience in event planning, nonprofit fundraising and the arts. The Special Events intern reports to the Director of Corporate Relations & Special Events and will participate in all aspects of auction planning. At times you will interact with board members and donors, attend committee meetings, and represent People’s Light to the community through both written and oral communication. Pending interest and performance, candidate will also be eligible for a summer internship as we host special events year-round. Additional qualifications are listed below:

 

Essential Functions

  • Communicate with invitees, sponsors and donors via phone, email, or in-person
  • Assist with acquisitions for both the Silent and Live auctions
  • Input required data into both Excel documents and GiveSmart
  • Follow-up with sponsors and donors for logos and items
  • Item pick-up when requested by donors
  • Ticket and payment tracking / reporting
  • Cataloging and finding storage for donated items
  • Must be available week leading up to and day / night of event – May 3
  • Candidates should be reliable, organized, easygoing, but persevering; and have good communication skills along with a creative, problem-solving mindset

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to receive school credit – this is not a paid internship
  • Excellent communication skills and a passion for working with a diverse public
  • Comfort handling telephone calls
  • Comfort with efficient in-person or over-the-phone interaction
  • Computer skills using Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word
  • Internet familiarity
  • Must have use of a car for picking up items
