SUMMER PROGRAMS FOR YOUTH

Summerstage offers youth ages 7-18 an opportunity to work in close collaboration with professional theatre artists. Students are immersed in the theatre-making process, experience acting, movement, music, and design. All programs culminate with presentations for family, friends, and theatre staff. Scholarships are available to those who qualify.

Summerstage for Youth
4 weeks, June 30-July 25 (no class July 4)
Monday - Friday, 9 am to 3 pm
Location: People's Light, Malvern
Led by Melayne Finister and company
Cost: $825


The imagination and invention of the participants are at the heart of this four-week program. Students work alongside professional artists to explore the theatre-making process through a range of activities--from acting and movement to music, writing and design. The program culminates in an original performance created by the participants. Led by Melanye Finister and professional artists drawn from People's Light's resident company and local guest artists.

Summerstage for Teens

Teen 1 Summerstage: The Acting Process (Grades 9-12)
No previous experience necessary.
3 weeks, June 23 to July 11 (no class on July 4th)
Monday - Friday, 10 am to 3 pm

Instructors: Pete Pryor and Kristy Chouiniere

This three-week program offers participants an in-depth exploration of acting. Students will be guided in developing their individual skills through a range of work featuring improvisation, character development, voice, movement, ensemble technique, and script work. The program is designed for students of all levels and will culminate in a sharing of student work. For students entering grades 9-12.

Teen 2 Summerstage: The Actor's Approach to Musical Theatre (Grades 9-12)
Pre-requisite: a previous theatre class or Summerstage session at People's Light and permission from the Theatre School staff.
3 weeks, July 14 - August 1
Monday - Friday, 10 am to 3 pm

Led by Elizabeth Webster-Duke and Kim Carson
Cost: $650


This session will immerse students in developing acting skills further, and working on how to tell stories through song. It will include voice-body connection exercises, vocal warm-ups, scene work, and theatre approaches to musical theatre performance. Session will end with a presentation by the class for family and friends.

Summerstage for 2nd and 3rd Graders
1 week, June 23-27
Monday - Friday, 9 am to 3 pm
Location: People's Light, Malvern
Instructors: Colleen Hughes and Jessica Conda
Cost: $375


Five days of creative fun! In this one-week program, children will explore stories and characters through movement, improvisation, writing, and theatre games. This workshop is great for both returning students and first-time theatre students. For students entering 2nd and 3rd grade in the fall of 2008.
