SUMMERSTAGE AT PEOPLE’S LIGHT
Summerstage offers youth ages 7-18 an opportunity to work in close collaboration with professional theater artists. Students are immersed in the theatre-making process, experiencing acting, movement, music, and design. All programs culminate with presentations for family, friends, and theatre staff. Scholarships are available to those who qualify.

We are still accepting registration for the following programs:

Summerstage for Youth (Grades 4-8)
4 weeks, July 6 – July 30
Monday – Friday, 9 am to 3 pm        
(no session on Monday, July 5)
Cost: $850

Location: People’s Light, Malvern
Led by Melayne Finister and company

The imagination and invention of the participants are at the heart of this four-week program. Students work alongside professional artists to explore the theatre-making process through a range of activities—from acting and movement to music, writing and design. The program culminates in an original performance created by the participants.  Led by Melanye Finister and professional artists drawn from People’s Light’s resident company and local guest artists. For youth entering grades 4-8 in fall 2010.


Teen Summerstage:  From Story to Production (Grades 9-12)
(No special skills or experience required.)
4 weeks, July 19 – August 13,
Monday – Friday, 10 am to 3 pm
Cost:  $700    

Location:  People’s Light, Malvern
Led by Samantha Bellomo with additional guest teaching artists

How does it all come together?  In this four-week session, participants will explore and experience making a production.  The class will include an insider look at the People’s Light upcoming production of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, including meeting designers and actors from the show.  Building on their exploration, students will develop their own theatre piece, from creating a script to pre-production planning, to designing to performing.  Everyone will be trying new things.  The program will culminate in a sharing of student work.  For students entering grades 9-12 in fall 2010.

Summerstage for 2nd and 3rd Graders
2 weeks, June 21 – July 1
(no class on Friday, July 2; program ends on Thursday, July 1)
Monday – Friday, 9 am to 3 pm
Cost: $400

Nine days of creative fun! In this program, children will explore stories and characters through movement, improvisation, writing, and theatre games. This workshop is great for both returning students and first time theatre students. For students entering 2nd and 3rd grade in the fall of 2010.
