People's Light is a place where arts and education have been intertwined since the theatre's founding in 1974. Beginning with tours to elementary schools and prisons in the 1970's, our education work has grown to become Project Discovery, a nationally recognized arts education program, which reaches 30,000 young people and adults annually in the Philadelphia region.

The foundation of our work lies in genuine artistic collaboration between our artists and members of the community, both young and old. We produce plays by great playwrights, which students see for free. We bring artists and young people together as creative collaborators in residencies. We show teachers how to use theatre in their classrooms. In all of our programs we aim to provide a creative, diverse and supportive environment where participants can take risks and grow.
