Our Mission

Behind the work we do at People's Light is an idea that drives us forward. We call it our mission and sometimes, our vision. Simply put, it's to bring together theatre artists of the highest caliber with large and diverse audiences in a welcoming environment to celebrate an increasingly complex world.

This idea feeds everyone at the Theatre in a multitude of ways: it inspires us to keep growing and challenging ourselves as artists and as neighbors; it helps direct our choices for the plays we produce each season and the projects we undertake; and it powers the decisions: administrative, financial, communicative and otherwise that we make daily in this large, growing arts organization.

At People's Light, we believe that participating in theatre as a maker or as an audience member can change minds and bring people together. That's important because we think that a diversity of age, race, cultural background and aesthetic goals among artists and audiences is vital to artistic growth and to the strength of a united community. We maintain a resident company of artists because we feel that continuity is essential in order to stay closely connected with our community, and for artists, audiences and neighbors to grow together.
