2008-2009 Season Internships

The People's Light & Theatre Company will offer full-time internships for the 2008-2009 Season in the following departments: Dramaturgy/Casting, Education/Development, Stage Management, and Props. Interns will receive on-site housing, health benefits, and a $150 weekly stipend. This is a newly conceived and comprehensive internship program that will involve special events designed for the interns, including monthly lunches, events, and an introduction to the organization as a whole.     Production
    Stage Management Intern: The Stage Management intern will work as an ASM in rehearsals and in running shows. Prior experience a plus. Please include references when submitting an application for this position.

    Props Intern: The Props Intern will work closely with the properties master on a daily basis to build, acquire and maintain props for busy 8-show season. This internship also includes experience working with the charge scenic artist. This is a learning position with many opportunities to gain experience and develop a variety of artisan skills. Candidates should have some experience in basic theatrical production skills, including carpentry, stitching, and painting.

    Dramaturgy/Casting
    Dramaturgy/Casting Intern: The Dramaturgy/Casting Intern at People's Light assists the Resident Dramaturg in all areas of production dramaturgy, including research, preparing actor packets, sitting in on rehearsals, creating lobby displays, and attending performances. Interns are expected to read and review scripts on a regular basis. The Dramaturgy Intern also assists with the casting process. This might include contacting actors, scheduling appointments, monitoring auditions, or sitting in to observe auditions. Candidates should have strong writing and research skills. Applicants for the Dramaturgy/Casting internship should include a writing sample with their cover letter and resume.

    Education/Development
    Education/Development Intern: This intern will split their time between Education and Development.

    Education: Administrative duties (entering data, including budget information and registration; processing credit card tuition; managing class lists); teaching (assist a lead teaching artist in a Theatre School class each session); Education productions (help as needed on Ensemble performances--could range from being on book during rehearsals to running errands to obtain materials, to serving on running crew or house management); and opportunities for observing rehearsals or classes.

    Development: Responsibilities: assist Director of Development and Manager of Special Events with foundation and corporate grant preparation and coordination; participate in golf tournament preparation and day of, committee meeting attendance, acknowledgement letters and other administrative related activities. The ideal candidate needs: excellent organizational skills, proficiency in MS Word and MS Excel, internet research, excellent telephone communication skills and a sense of humor. Tessitura experience a plus.


    Box Office Assistants

    The People's Light & Theatre Company in Malvern, PA seeks part-time box office assistants. Daytime and evening/weekend hours available. Applicants should be computer literate, have the ability to multi-task, and enjoy working with the public. Retail and/or customer service experience is a plus. Must have transportation.     House Management Assistants

    The People’s Light & Theatre Company, a professional regional theatre located in suburban Chester County that produces an eight-show season in two on-site theatres, seeks part-time House Management Assistant staff. The House Management Assistants are responsible for assisting the house manager with all front of house duties for all performances and helping serve as the primary liaison between the theatre and its audience, which includes a large subscriber base as well as many first-time visitors. Position may require daytime, evening and/or weekend performances throughout the year. Ideal candidates should possess excellent people skills and an ability to work with grace under pressure.
